Welcome to Duquesne University's HIPAA Training Site!
In compliance with a newly passed United States Federal law on
the Health
Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Duquesne University
has created a training module and testing site for its students. (If you
are not planning to work in the United States you need not complete this
training.)
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 was instituted to provide health insurance portability for individuals, to protect the privacy and security of patient health information, and to eradicate fraud and abuse. Also known as the Kennedy-Kassebaum Act or the Administrative Simplification Act, HIPAA was enacted on August 21, 1996. The law applies to all healthcare providers, clearinghouses, and healthcare plans, any organizations that transmits healthcare information, and any organization that delivers, bills, or receives money for healthcare services (and to the vendors or business associates of these organizations.)
To begin your training, you will first need to register for
the pre-test. Please click on the link to the left entitled "Testing" or click here. After completing the pre-test, you may begin your instructional
